It’s Farmers Market Season!

Farmers MarketFinally, it’s farmers market season and Minnesota has plenty of markets to pick from. There are more than 170 markets featured in the Minnesota Grown directory, a handy resource for finding local foods. In addition to the markets, the 2014-15 directory includes information on berry farms, garden centers, orchards, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms, and more.

Fresh FoodWith such great variety of produce and other agricultural products, you’ll want to return to your farmers market each week to see what’s new! Rhubarb, lettuces, chard, spinach, asparagus, and green onions are a few examples of early produce you may find in these first few weeks of the market. Here’s a great calendar to help you keep track of what’s in season!

Another way to keep up on all things local (locally grown, that is!) is with Minnesota Grown’s Facebook page. You’ll find events, recipes, gift ideas and even tips and news from Minnesota Grown member-farmers. Summer goes by fast so don’t miss the opportunity to buy fresh, healthy, locally grown foods by visiting a farmers market or a farm near you!
